Now in days those arrives John the Baptist proclaiming in the
wilderness of Judeae, 2 saying: repent ye; for has come near the kingdom
of the heavens 3 for this is the one spoken of through Isaiah the prophet
saying: A voice of one crying in the wilderness: prepare ye the way of
the Lord, straight make the paths of him 4 Now himself John had the raiment
of him from hairs of a camel and a girdle leathern round the loins of
him: and the food was of him locusts and honey wild. 5 The went out to
him Jerusalem and all Judeae and all the
neighbourhood of the Jordan.
6 And were baptised in the Jordan river
by him confessing the sins of them. 7 And seeing many of the Pharisees
and Sadducees coming to the baptism he said to them: Offspring of vipers,
|
who warned you to flee from the coming wrath 8 Produce therefore
fruit worthy of repentance: 9 and think not to say among yourselves as
father we have Abraham: for I tell you that is able God out of the stones
these to raise children to Abraham 10 And already the axe at the root of
the trees is laid; therefore every tree not producing fruit good is cut
down and into the fire is cast. 11 I indeed you baptise in water to
repentance: but the one after me coming strong them I is, of whom I am
not worthy the sandals to bear: he you will baptise in the Spirit Holy
and fire: 12 of whom the fan is in the hand of him, and he will
thoroughly cleanse the threshing floor of him , and will gather the wheat
of him into the barn, but the chaff he will consume with fire
unquenchable.
